How to Repair Damaged Imprinted/Stamped Concrete Driveways and Patios

This is another area where issues can happen, and they can be rectified quite simply but as end users, very few people are told or explained about the processes of fixing damaged Imprinted/Stamped Concrete. These measures can keep an Imprinted/Stamped Concrete Driveway or Patio looking fantastic for years to come.

When an Imprinted/Stamped Concrete Driveway or Patio is not given the protection, it needs every 2 years or so with a good clean (Jet Wash) and re-sealed with a good quality High Solids Imprinted Sealer/Renovator or High Solids Coloured/Tinted Imprinted Sealer/Renovator then fractures and flaking and chipping and gauges become a distinct possibility and because the surface is only covered by 6 – 10mm of colour due to the process of laying the concrete, you will invariably see the grey concrete which will stand out like a sore thumb and look really unsightly.

We have two processes that work extremely well in differing ways depending on the extent of the damage to the concrete.

Swiss-seal Crack Repair Kit – Generally used for fine cracks and surface abrasions

  • The crack to be filled should be cleaned and be bone- dry prior to application of the filler.
  • Add the powder component to the liquid component to form a pourable paste. Force into crack using a palette knife (or something similar). As the product begins to dry, remove any excess with a palette knife.
  • DO NOT APPLY SEALER OVER THE CRACK FOR AT LEASE 24 HOURS
  • Re-surfacing small areas
  • The area to be filled should be cleaned and be bone- dry prior to application of the filler.
  • Add the powder component to the liquid component to form a trowelable paste.
  • Trowel onto surface using a palette knife (or something similar).
  • Smooth to an acceptable finish.
  • As the product begins to dry, remove any excess with a palette knife.
  • DO NOT APPLY SEALER OVER THE CRACK FOR AT LEASE 24 HOURS

Swiss-seal Surface Repair Kit – Generally used for larger piece damage and surface coating.

  • The area to be filled should be cleaned and be bone- dry prior to application of the filler.
  • Use the liquid component to prime the surface area to be filled.
  • Add the powder component to the liquid component to form a trowelable paste.
  • Trowel onto the primed surface whilst the primer is still wet, using a palette knife (or something similar).
  • Smooth to an acceptable finish.
  • As the product begins to dry, remove any excess with a palette knife.
  • DO NOT APPLY SEALER OVER THE CRACK FOR AT LEASE 24 HOURS

AFTERCARE

There is very little you need to do with regards to aftercare. Every so often it would not be a bad idea to jet wash the surface, not too strong. This will remove moss. Algae and other loose impediments that are sat on the surface of the sealed area. Remember that every 2 years or so re-seal the surface with Our High Solids Imprinted Sealer/Renovator or better still Our Coloured High Solids Imprinted Sealer/Renovator

I have added several blogs bespoke to individual substrates to understand and apply the relevant sealer that substrate (Natural Stone. Indian Stone. Block Paving, Man-Made paving, Slate and Granite. Brick and Stone) needed to be used.

They are available on our website www.color-pave.co.uk.

REMEMBER THERE ARE OPTIONS TO ADD COLOUR TO MOST OF THE ABOVE MATERIALS IF THEY ARE FADING AND LIFELESS
